Hollandsche Vloot IJsselmeer

We are organizing a special event on Friday the 12th of May. For several years we have been considering a sailing trip on a classic Dutch ship, but we had to cancel plans due to the coronavirus. And now it will continue!

How to join:

Detailed information in the tabs below.

What?

What:

  • We selected a sailing vessel and skipper that meets our request to have a great sailing experience ánd support different levels of sailing experience of the participants. The chosen sailing vessel is called “De Hoge Wier” and is a so-called Clipper, a traditional boat part of the historic ‘Bruine vloot’ or ‘Hollandsche Zeilvloot’. A clipper is known for the great speeds that it can reach, which was in use in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Our ship is a fast one-masted clipper from 1899, fully renovated, with restyled interior, equipped with modern rigging and won several prizes in races. So we believe it is fit for real sailing enthusiasts and both experienced and non-experienced people that like this can help to hoist the sails, steer and navigate. On the trip there is enough time to show and feel everything about the ins and outs of sailing on a large classic ship.
  • Sailing on a classic sailing ship is an enormous experience in itself, which is strengthened by the historical places we will see. We will be sailing on the IJsselmeer which is the biggest lake in Holland. What is special about the lake is that it used to be the Zuiderzee (South Sea) and was closed off by a man-made dyke, the Afsluitdijk. There are picturesque old villages along the IJsselmeer and we will visit 2 of them, Muiden and Volendam. Departure is from Muiden, an old fortified town next to Amsterdam with Muiderslot as one of Holland’s most picturesque medieval castles. Volendam will be the stop-over during our sailing trip, a great opportunity to visit the most famous fishermen’s village in the Netherlands, that was sung about as the ‘pearl of the Zuiderzee’.
