Maasplassen Sailing Experience This event is a gentle introduction to the world of sailing. The location is inshore, on a lake about 45mins driving time from Veldhoven. No previous sailing experience is needed, as each sailing boat is assigned an experienced skipper.For this event, you don’t have to be a member of ASCN! We hope to see some people who are new to sailing, to show them what sailing is all about. We do this in open keelboats, 15 boats of type “Valk” to be more specific.An open keelboat is a totally different sailing experience compared to a yacht. For one thing, these boats are open so you are in direct contact with the weather. But more importantly: an open keelboat gives more direct feedback on your actions which makes it very engaging and active. Everything is more direct, because the boat is smaller and lighter, the sheets of the sails are controlled by hand (without winches), you have a tiller instead of a steering wheel, etc. The price, of course, is that there is less comfort on board, and you can’t cross the ocean with an open keelboat (well, you can, but we don’t recommend it).Some people prefer open keelboats, some people prefer yachts, and some people love both. If you’ve never sailed in an open keelboat and you are not sure if you like it, there’s only one way to find out! |

Who?
For this event, you don’t have to be a member of ASCN!
The open sailing event is specifically geared towards people who don’t have enough experience to be a skipper, or even people who have never sailed before.
However: we can only make this happen if we have enough skippers! We need at least 15 people who can be skipper on a Valk. So if you have enough keelboot experience to be a skipper, please register for this event!
Being the skipper means that the other people on board have less experience than you. You can take the responsibility over the boat and its crew, and you can explain the rest of the crew what to do on the boat.
Where?
Sailingcenter Limburg. In Kinrooi, Belgium. The ASCN board helps to organize carpools for the participants.
How Much?
Theevent typically costs around EUR 50 (can change depending on the number of participants etc). This includes the hiring of the sailboats, lunch and BBQ. It does NOT include travel to and fro from the location.
