Offshore Safety & Rescue | GetWet
After a very successful event in Rotterdam in 2019, we propose the follow-up training out at sea.
Theoretical content:
  • Dangers of hypothermia & treatment of a hypothermic victim
  • Functioning of life rafts & an explanation of the survival package
  • Life jackets & survival suits
  • Manual gear, lights, parachute signals, & smoke (pyrotechnics)
  • Helicopter lines & rescue
  • Dangers on board, such as: man overboard, fire, collision, etc.
  • Abandon ship, rescue equipment
  • Coordinating with the rescuing party

 

Practical Training:

  • Escape from & flip an inverted life raft
  • Save a drowning person with a ring & line
  • Survival swimming
  • Transporting wounded in the water
  • Joint rescue techniques & survival circle
  • Climbing nets & the use of a helicopter hoist
  • Lighting flares, hand lights & smoke pots
  • Bringing a victim on board horizontal

When/How Long?

Date 16 April 2023

Will be a full day event lasting from approximately 08:30 to 16:30.

Program:

10:00h: gathering in canteen of the training center

10:00h: start with nice brunch with sandwiches, coffee, tea, milk or orange jus

10:40h: start briefing (what is going to be done on the day)

After the briefing all people start changing clothes into wetsuits

After putting on the wetsuits we head for the swimming pool

Teams have their own trainer for the day and the exercises will start

Short break after 2,5 hours

Start same exercises with all effects (wind, rain, waves, lightening and darkness)

+/- 16:00h: training ends

Last year we could also arrange to stay after the training to enjoy some drinks. I’m still in the process of arranging this. We can then stay there till 17:00 ?

Who?

This course is recommended for all water sports enthusiasts such as divers, sailors, canoeists, surfers and coastal rescue brigades. During this training day, the operation of rescue equipment and techniques is explained. A “must” for anyone who is regularly on or in the water.

How Much?

85.00 Euros per person + wetsuit rental 15.00 Euros (if you do not have your own) Wearing a wetsuit is mandatory due to risk of hyperthermia.
Participation cost includes lunch and coffee/tea
Transportation by private cars, costs to be arranged with the drivers. Depending on level of interest, a group train ticket may be possible.
